Complaints & Appeals

How to appeal a decision or raise a concern, and how we handle it.

International Journal of Advances in Interdisciplinary Research takes complaints and appeals seriously and handles them fairly, confidentially and promptly, following the guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Raising a concern in good faith never affects how a person's manuscripts are treated.

Appeals against editorial decisions

  • Authors may appeal a rejection once, within 30 days of the decision, by replying to the decision email or writing to submissions@ijaidr.org.
  • The appeal should explain specifically why the decision is believed to be wrong — for example, a factual error by a reviewer, a misunderstanding of the work, or a conflict of interest — and respond point by point to the reviewers' comments. Disagreement alone, or a revised manuscript without explanation, is not grounds for appeal.
  • Appeals are assessed by an editor who was not involved in the original decision, who may consult the original or new reviewers. The Editor-in-Chief takes the final decision on the appeal; if the Editor-in-Chief made the original decision, a senior board member reviews the appeal.
  • We aim to reply within four weeks. Possible outcomes are: the decision stands; the manuscript is reconsidered with further review; or, rarely, the decision is reversed. The decision on appeal is final, and the manuscript must not be under consideration elsewhere while the appeal is open.

Complaints

Anyone — authors, reviewers, readers or others — may complain about:

  • the handling of a manuscript (for example, unreasonable delay or a perceived unfair process);
  • the conduct of an editor, reviewer, author or the editorial office;
  • a published article (possible plagiarism, data fabrication, image manipulation, duplicate publication, authorship disputes, undeclared conflicts of interest, ethical approval or consent issues);
  • the publisher's policies or services, including the article processing charge and invoices.

Please write to submissions@ijaidr.org with the subject “Complaint”, giving the manuscript or article details, a clear description of the concern and any supporting evidence. Anonymous concerns about published work are considered if they contain specific, verifiable evidence.

How complaints are handled

  1. We acknowledge every complaint within 7 days.
  2. The complaint is handled by someone not involved in the matter. Complaints about the Editor-in-Chief are handled by a senior member of the editorial board together with the publisher.
  3. Concerns about published work are investigated using the relevant COPE flowcharts. The authors are given the opportunity to respond, and where necessary their institution may be contacted.
  4. We aim to give a substantive reply within 30 days; complex investigations may take longer, and we will keep the complainant informed of progress.
  5. Outcomes may include no action, a correction, an expression of concern, a retraction (see Corrections & Retractions), changes to our processes, or removal of an editor or reviewer.

If you are not satisfied

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may ask for it to be reviewed by the publisher, OriGene Biosolutions (OriGene Academic Press), at submissions@ijaidr.org. Concerns about the conduct of the journal may also be raised with the Committee on Publication Ethics, which provides guidance to journals (publicationethics.org).

Confidentiality

Complaints are kept confidential and shared only with those who need to know in order to investigate. The identity of a person raising a concern is not disclosed to the subject of the complaint without their consent, unless required by law.
